Creation at Light Middle East 2016

November - 2016
Dharmendra Patel - MD
The Light Middle East 2016 (LME) came like a breath of fresh air for us all in the lighting industry. For us it served as a platform to sign up an exclusive partnership with Paul Neuhaus Lighting from Germany who made their debut at the show. Their impressive array of products had visitors milling over at their stand and the response was encouraging.

Not to be outdone was the splash Mode Lighting UK created. They returned once more flexing their muscles with a whole new spellbinding range that reflected their commitment to innovation.

Overall a palpable sense of buoyancy and enthusiasm pervaded LME 2016. What was most eye-catching was that LME for the first time had a Lighting Designer - Ms Sakina Dugawala on board to oversee the entire image of the expo. Her firm Light.Func needs to be complimented on its excellent contribution to the show. Her involvement in the Ready Steady Light Middle East did not go amiss and her inaugural Light.ication initiative which put design studios and the next generation's designers from local universities produced some phenomenal lighting installations.

The show was defined by both the quality and quantity of exhibitors and served as the perfect platform for many of our esteemed principals to showcase their latest products and innovations to the region.

In conclusion, it is increasingly becoming evident that conventional source fixtures are on their way out. And while everyone is recognizing that LED solutions are the way forward, it was evident to everyone at the show that we in the Middle East still have long way to go.respective of size and our nearly two decades of experience speaks for itself.
Creation at Light Middle East 2016

Creation Gulf's partners Mode Lighting UK and the newly signed up Neuhaus Lighting Group showcased a range of exciting new products and capabilities at Light Middle East 2016. Although Mode has ensconced its presence in the region since 2007, it was Neuhaus’ maiden appearance.

Creation is all set to introduce the Neuhaus range of home, decorative and technical lighting solutions that straddle every type of user and application to the region. Clocking over 50 years in the lighting market, the brand has a considerable market share in Germany and Europe says Klaus A. Schmidt, Export Manager, Middle East. “Since this is our first time at Light Middle East we showcased an overview of our range of products and solutions.

“There was something for virtually everybody” was the most heard comment on the stand. The centrepiece of our display was “Q”, a range of Zigbee compatible luminaires that offered visitors an interactive opportunity to set up light scenes and create ambient settings at the touch of a fingertip. We believe that once clients pick up on the possibilities of smart lighting they will want to transfer their individual wellness settings also to travel and leisure, e.g. the hotel room and spa experience.”

Besides the classic designs in gold or bronze finish mainly the modern European luminaires in stylish shapes and finishes, visitors were particularly attracted by the advanced LED technology used. The Neuhaus brand is committed to creating a range of energy efficient LED fixtures and solutions that tie in perfectly with Creation’s aim to offer the region a wide range of high quality solutions that are eco-conscious. According to Tony Kinsey, Export Sales Director, Mode Lighting UK, although Mode trades in over forty countries, the Middle East region without doubt contributes the largest share of Mode Lighting's exports outside the UK. Offering a wide range of lighting control products that offer cutting edge solutions for architectural, residential, retail and commercial applications, this year Mode’s showcase at Light Middle East focused on innovations for smooth dimming of LED's and energy management of commercial lighting.

“Our new "Impulse LED" a single channel inline dimmer is designed specifically to dim LED lamps. It's 250w output is controlled by any momentary switch which can also be used to program the upper and lower limits of dimming. For simple scene setting of a room we showcased our new SceneStyle LED, an LED friendly wall box dimmer that comes in 2 or 4 channel versions. Capable of 250w per channel, the self-contained dimmers fit into the standard two or four gang wall boxes and can be easily programmed without a computer.”

Specifically, for energy management of commercial office environments Mode displayed the new Day Lux Control System (DLCS), a presence detector based lighting control system to control DALI compatible light fittings. Saving energy by switching lights on only where required and dimming them down if there is sufficient natural light, the range comprises sensors and switches controlling plug-in or hard wired Lighting Control Modules, all complemented by easy to commission front end software.

"It was a great show for Mode and the interest in our products was excellent. The quality and knowledge of the visitors from the UAE and other local regions was very high and many exciting projects are already being discussed", adds Kinsey.
Speaking of future trends in the light world Kinsey says, “In the office market, the focus of Lighting Controls as part of the ‘Internet of Things’ is exciting, in fact as a technology company we strive to be ahead of the curve, for the last five years our eDIN system has been shipped with an Ethernet port enabling it to send information over IP to other systems, such as occupancy patterns using its own presence detectors.

“With regard to residential applications, companies such as Amazon and Microsoft are introducing voice recognition systems that are as efficient as our own hearing. Integrating with these will enable Mode’s lighting and blind controls to be voice activated! We are indeed heading towards more exciting times ahead!”

Speaking about Mode’s commitment to energy conservation, Kinsey says, “The advantage at Mode is that all our products are designed and manufactured by our own teams in our own factories in the UK which means we are in control of the product. We meet sustainability objectives throughout the process from energy efficient circuit design, manufacturing in ISO audited factories through to the functionality of the end product which is its reason for being, to save energy. The first Mode dimmers came out in 1969 and we've been saving energy ever since!”
